An interesting, quirky painting that started from a simple reference photo of a crowd on the street. The final touch that made it work for me, ultimately, was the addition of the shadows on the walls and abstract figures hidden in the clouds. I bounced around several titles, finally landing on the current one which somehow works (might start a new series based on this one).

I chose the subject matter on a whim really, but I'm glad I did. Painting small live objects (as opposed to painting from a photograph or computer screen) is a valuable exercise for the artistic mind. There's just something different about it---if nothing else, it presents a nice change of pace (though I'm sure there is something more to it than that---I'm just not putting my brain on it at present).
Anyway. Lego Duck. Or chicken. Or bird---it doesn't matter to me. I like how the painting turned out. I've added the painting video below. Thanks!

Untitled Cityscape, 24x36", $675
This one is something of a throwback to an earlier painting series of mine---my Civilization series---featuring bright colors, bold lines, and a particular primitive painting style that I quite like. Perhaps I'll do more of these in the future....especially if this video gets some love (thumbs up and comment, please?).

While waiting on a replacement sdcard for my dslr camera, I used my cellphone to record this painting process (thus the wider angle of the lens). I think the quality turned out well and since the paint palette is also included in the shot, maybe the wide-angle lens is a better way to go .

The original "Vaughen's Lounge" (still available here) was painted on a large 36x48" canvas and featured a loose, playful style which I wanted to recapture in a smaller size. This one came together quickly and I like how it turned out.

It's been awhile since since I've painted a dog portrait without it being a commission. This one went quick. I completed it in two painting sessions, and I achieved the somewhat abstracted, somewhat off-kilter look I was aiming for. The simple orange/blue color scheme works great. What else can I say: I am pleased with this painting. This series began two years ago, really, as a set of four 36x24" paintings which were painted all at one time, the idea being they could be displayed as a group or individually. I had originally called them "Paysage Energique" (Energetic Landscape), but I am renaming them as "Through the Wild Wood---large". Here they are (all of them still available, by the way):

The new set of Through the Wild Wood paintings are smaller, at 8x10", and available in both vertical and horizontal formats. I painted a batch of ten each to start with. These paintings are all similar in style and color and subject matter---indeed, they are painted in batches to ensure the consistent look across all paintings in the series (see video below of the painting process)---but they are each original pieces. Due to the nature of this series of paintings, I will not be posting each specific painting, only these few examples of the painting series---you understand.
Additionally, because of my rapid workflow and because they are painted on canvas panels instead of bulky traditional canvas, I am offering these 8x10"/10x8" paintings in the Through the Wild Wood series at a lower price-point than other paintings of this size and I am also offering free shipping!
