It all started when I was describing the early stages of my painting process as “notes on the painting itself”. As in, these basic shapes and tentative lines describe the intended future painting [which has not yet become the painting itself] . . . just notes jotted down for later reference.
This idea became Notes on a Landscape, wherein I add in words and phrases related to the image itself, sometimes literally, sometimes poetically or tangentially.
