I have been painting and sketching and, in general, arting around ever since my annual Christmas slump, but being unmotivated in regards to updating my website, I find myself with a lot of catching up to do. Covington Art Market is Nigh

This Saturday, in fact, I will be lugging all my gear over to the NorthShore Art Market in Covington [hope to see you there]. I feel ill-equipped this time. I have some new paintings to show, that's not it; I just feel like I haven't been preparing as much as I usually do. Well, I have three and a half days to do just that, I suppose.

A big part of my uneasiness might be the fact that this blog has gone unchanged in quite some time. It isn't as if some great catastrophe has befallen me, preventing me from updating the blog - nothing that fantastic - only a lack of motivation has prevented it. Well, anyway, I'll try to get back at it once again.

*friendly reminder: Federal tax return deadline is nigh, as well.

Yesterday was President's Day in the United States, and although I admittedly don't go all out for this national holiday [what does one do on President's Day, anyway?], I had the slightly-belated thought of painting something patriotic. Highlights can bring a dull painting to life. Honestly not much work had to go into this painting. After a quick pencil sketch, I blocked in the different shades of gray. Then added the blackest blacks, then added the highlights. That was pretty much it.

I painted this from the photo on the wikipedia entry on tortoise-shell cats. I had never heard of torties until recently (I thought they were all just calicoes). This one is technically a tortoise-shell-and-white, as true tortoise-shells have no white.

As this post is going up (Saturday, February 9th) I will be at the North Shore Art Market with this painting, so those at the Art Market will have first call on this one. If you're in the area, come on out!

North Shore Art Market
